American Heritage Workwear Brand Extends Product Offerings to Support Federal Government Needs
FORT WORTH, TEXAS (February 25, 2016) – Dickies, the world’s leading performance workwear brand, is now available on Federal Supply Schedule 84 – Total Solutions for Law Enforcement, Security, Facilities Management, Fire, Rescue, Clothing, Marine Craft Emergency/Disaster Response. Federal customers can now order these products through GSA Advantage.
The General Services Administration contract’s (GS-07F-041DA) purpose is to provide centralized procurement of 91 workwear and uniform pieces from Dickies to be available as a preferred vendor to federal, state and local agencies for purchase at a discounted rate. While Dickies has been outfitting government officials since WWII, when the company was commissioned to produce khaki uniform pants for the U.S. Armed Forces, this newfound agreement is a true honor and recognizes Dickies as fully authorized to conduct business directly with Federal government agencies.
“Dickies has long history of supporting U.S. government workers including completely suspending commercial operations during WWII to manufacture military uniforms,” says Alex Smith, senior vice president of Dickies Occupational Wear. “This contract serves as a testament to the performance, durability and reliability of Dickies workwear and further exemplifies our commitment to supporting the hard workers of the U.S. Federal Law Enforcement and Security agencies.”

Dickies Occupational Wear
Brands with staying power typically have several commonalities. With today’s economic climate, and throughout recent American business history, it’s these common traits and goals that attract customers and keep them coming back.
In the workwear and industrial laundry world, companies that provide quality products with a blue-chip service and distribution model win out. At Dickies, the legendary workwear brand that opened its doors in 1922, the Occupational Wear Division has helped maintain these crucial traits by improving a practice that many companies overlook – listening.
“Dickies has been going to work with Americans for 90 years, and we’re proud of that,” said Alex Smith, Sr. Vice President of Occupational Wear at Dickies. “But we’ve learned that for a brand of our size and reach, the only way to truly keep expanding and providing even better products and service is to listen to our customers and reach to the needs of their business.”
Smith and his team took aim at the Occupational Wear service model first. In 2011, Dickies Workwear Delivered was unveiled following intense research and customer outreach to better understand how the brand could better serve customers. In just over a year the service model, which includes a beefed-up inventory and added distribution centers coast-to-coast, has become an industry standard.
With Dickies Workwear Delivered in place and flourishing, the occupational team has turned its focus to product and category expansion. Dickies has long served the many segments within the workwear and industrial laundry space, but their latest expansion – the result of trend-monitoring and more customer communication – offers true head-to-toe solutions in the areas where workers need it most.
Those areas include the growing food service, hospitality and manufacturing segments.
“We’re constantly looking to grow across all channels and segments at Dickies, but by focusing on growth areas in the marketplace we’ve been able to hone in on job segments that are trending up,” added Smith. “Our customers in these segments need a one-stop-shop for their growing workforce, and we’re delivering that thanks to our latest strategic expansion.”
What’s New at Dickies
Hospitality and food service industries will be served with a new selection of items including chef coats and pants, aprons and slip-resistant footwear. The selection of chef coats, pants and aprons transitions the recent trend of color-blocking into the workwear field with white and black combinations, most items available in sizes S-5XL. Moreover, the addition of slip-resistant footwear in coordinating black leather completes the uniform.
Protection is always key in the manufacturing/service industry and the new shoe assortment of steel toe and non-steel toe work boots are up to the challenge. All of these black leather, lace up boot options are made with the comfort and safety of the worker in mind.
With the addition of the junior-sized products more companies are able to accommodate the needs of younger employees or those that require smaller sizing. This product line also offers a more fashion-forward, trendier styling with slimmer fits and a larger variety of color options. The collection of pants include three variations on the popular Skinny fit pant, Original Low Rider, Classic and Curvy, to provide workers with their favorite fit, available in sizes 0-15.
Expansion in key strategic segments won’t stop there. Later in 2013, Dickies plans to unveil head-to-toe solutions for the growing healthcare and government/tactical fields.
“What we’re offering is one invoice, one shipment and one sales representative from one iconic brand,” said Smith. “For our customers in these growing segments the simplicity and service from a trusted partner like Dickies is exactly what they need to grow alongside their customers.”
Dickies Delivers in Canada
Expansion within Dickies goes beyond product offerings. In fact, it crosses country lines in the brand’s latest announcement that the North American Occupation Wear Division will now manage and service Canada.
“High-level service is what our customers have come to expect in North America, and that’s exactly what we’re bringing north of the border to boost our Canadian business,” noted Smith.
Dickies Workwear Delivered will now be activated in Canada with a Toronto distribution center as the heartbeat and a dedicated sales representative. This will greatly support the bulk of Dickies’ industrial laundry customers with Canadian locations, giving them access to the same deep inventory and fulfillment pledge as North America: core products ordered before 10 a.m. are shipped the same day; core products ordered after 10 a.m. are shipped within 24 hours.
With product expansion in key segments and new service in Canada, Dickies is thriving in a landscape that can prove tough for growth, especially for a company of its size. Smith and his team often point to the heritage of the company as motivation to never stop improving for customers.
“Our number one goal within Dickies Occupational is to make our customers look good in the eyes of their customers,” explained Smith. “For 90 years Dickies has held itself to a standard of great clothes and great service. We owe it to our incredible history and our loyal customers to keep that tradition alive for decades to come.”
FORT WORTH, TEXAS (Jan. XX, 2013) – Leading global workwear manufacturer Dickies has announced that its occupational wear division is expanding its product offerings and geographical availability in order to more fully and efficiently serve its growing customer base.
Beginning this month, customers in the food service, hospitality and healthcare industries will now have head-to-toe uniform options available from Dickies, including juniors sizing and footwear options as well as a full range of men’s and women’s uniform apparel needs. In addition to servicing customers across the United States, the company’s occupational wear division will also now provide workwear uniform solutions for customers across Canada. Both expansions launched in early January 2013.
“We’re pleased with the progress we’ve made in the last two years to provide our customers with deeper inventories, faster turnaround times and same day service on Dickies’ core industrial product line,” said Alex Smith, senior vice president of occupational wear at Dickies. “The Dickies Workwear Delivered service model has been well received in the marketplace and our category expansion and entry into Canada is the natural next step. We are excited to offer our North American customers a head-to-toe workwear solution from a brand their customers want to wear.”
Dickies is strategically focused on growth across all occupational channels and committed to meeting the needs of its multi-faceted customer base. This new expansion into food service, hospitality, healthcare, footwear and juniors is the result of ongoing customer engagement and research in order to not only deliver on, but surpass customers’ expectations. That engagement and research revealed an opportunity to address key job growth industries with a uniform solution from a trusted, renowned workwear brand.
In addition, Dickies plans to expand their presence in the healthcare space later in 2013. Although Dickies currently services healthcare workers with uniforms, they plan to launch a full line of industrial laundry medical scrubs.
“Dickies has a strong retail presence in the scrub category. We are excited to leverage that brand strength to offer an industrial laundry-friendly scrub line that will allow our customers to grow their healthcare business,” said Smith.
Also planned in 2013 is a product launch for the tactical and government sectors.
“What we’re offering is a complete workwear solution on one invoice, with streamline shipping from a single DC and one point of contact from an iconic brand that is rooted in work and workwear,” added Smith. “I believe the new product offering, simplicity and service from a trusted partner like Dickies is what our customers are looking for in a workwear partner.”
The hospitality and food service industries will be served with a new selection of items, including chef coats and pants, aprons and slip-resistant footwear. Dickies will also offer steel toe safety boots and non-steel toe work boots to cater to the food service, construction, manufacturing and government/tactical sectors. With the addition of junior-sized products, customers will be able to accommodate the needs of younger employees as well as anyone desiring a more on-trend selection with slimmer fits and a larger variety of color palettes.
The Dickies occupational wear division will now service Canada through a Toronto distribution center along with dedicated sales representation. The announcement brings the dynamic Dickies Workwear Delivered service program to loyal workwear customers north of the border, giving them access to the same deep inventory and fulfillment pledge as the US: core products ordered before 10 a.m. are shipped the same day; core products ordered after 10 a.m. are shipped within 24 hours.
“Our retail brand is strong in Canada and we’re excited to bring our occupational workwear product and service model to the Canadian marketplace,” said Smith.
